We have three short months of perfect summer weather in Providence…Who wants to waste time eating indoors? Providence Eats has compiled a list of the 7 Best Outdoor Dining Experiences in the city so that you can make the most of the sunshine and warm air while we have it.
Best “to see and be seen”: Costantino’s Venda Bar and Ristorante
Located in the heart of Federal Hill, “Venda” provides customers with delectable Italian cuisine and some of the best people watching in Providence. DePasquale Square is home to many of the city’s most well-known restaurants, and the action doesn’t stop at sundown. Live music and dancing fill the area during most nights of the week, and drinks flow at the open-window bar where finding a seat may be difficult. If you’re craving an Italian meal surrounded by fun and music, this is the place to go.
Best Lunch Cafe: Olga’s Cup and Saucer
Olga’s is the perfect spot to meet with a friend for coffee, breakfast or lunch. The outside garden patio is surrounded by beautiful flowers and trees, making it a quiet abyss on Point Street. It’s your needed escape on lunch break; the place that brings about mental clarity. Not to mention that they have a delicious bakery within!
Their artisan sandwiches paired with a homemade lemonade and chocolate chip cookie truly make a summer week day feel like a Sunday.
Best Date Spot: Waterman Grille
Waterman Grille, located right behind the Henderson Bridge connecting to East Providence, is tucked away from the city’s hustle and bustle on the Seekonk River. Enjoy the waterfront view with a menu that can appeal to all tastes. If you don’t like a breeze, eat dinner within the restaurant and enjoy the views from the surrounding windows. This restaurant gets “Best Date Spot” because the ambiance is very romantic and quaint. It’s sure to impress your next Tinder date 😉
Best Spot to See Friends: Ogie’s Trailer Park
Ogie’s makes our list due to it’s super unique atmosphere. It is designed to look and feel like a trailer park (a slightly upper class one, that is), so this spot is for you if you’re looking to just kick it with friends in a laidback, cool place that’ll remind you just how fun cookouts are. It’s funky and retro appearance is complimented by outdoor fire pits, a tiki bar, and the best tatertots in the game.
Best Spot During Waterfire: Cafe Nuovo
Right on Providence’s Riverwalk is Cafe Nuovo, and the only thing more beautiful than inside the restaurant is outside. Between the skyline, the water, and people – there is no better spot to dine outside during waterfire. The menu is out of this world with seafood, pizza, pasta, and grilled plates. This popular spot is also known for its impressive wine selection.
Best Spot for Drinks & Bar Food: The Hot Club
The Hot Club is a staple in anyone’s day/night out in Providence. This local favorite has a limited, but delicious menu- burgers, willow tree chicken salad, hot dogs and more. Plus, the drinks are stiff and reasonable. The deck becomes filled at happy hour with an after-work crowd that is loyal to their spot. Boat rides are offered some nights from the deck, and Sunday Funday’s are made extra special with Food Trucks in their parking lot.
Best Special Occasion Spot: The Capital Grille
The new(ish) Capital Grille moved to where Ruth Chris used to be – in front of Providence Place Mall overlooking the river – and we’re sure glad it did. The outside dining is upscale, elegant, and beautiful with views of the statehouse, skyline, and water. We don’t have to talk up this menu; chances are you know Capital Grille’s reputation. However, the outdoor dining now offered makes this luxury restaurant where you want to be for your next birthday, anniversary, holiday, etc.
